    • James Evelyn Harold Hidden (J080). Born at Grantham, Lincs , 18 Mar 1911. In the 1911 census (aged 15 days) he was with his mother in London, where she was staying as a boarder with a family in Belgravia. At the age of 15 1/2 he joined the army (7th Queens Hussars) 0n 7 Sept 1926. His army record shows him 6ft 1 3/8 in tall.
      He left the Queens Hussars in 1932 and joined the Metropolitam Police Force on 12 Dec 1932. Following a period of service in Central London he wad transferred to the Ilford and Romford Division. It was at Romford that he met and married Gladys B Brooks (G023) in 1935. In 1942, as a detective officer he received a Commissioner's commendation for his part in in the apprehension of an armed fugitive.
      In 1946 he decided to heed the call for officer recruits for the new Hong Kong Police Force, resigning from the Metropolitan Police on 20 Jan 1946. His service with the Royal Hong Kong Police Force lasted from 31 Jan 1946 to 7 Aug 1965. During this period he distinguished himself by an act of courage which resulted in his being awarded on of the first two George Medals ever awarded to the Colony Police.
      When James retired from the Police Force in Aug 1965 he emigrated to Brisbane, Australia. He died suddenly at his residence at 3 Taroom St, Mt Gravatt, Brisbane. Following an autopsy, his cremation took place on 26 Mar 1968 at the Mt. Thompson Crematotium, Brisbane
