    • A beneficiary in the will of his father Thomas Hedden (1815) who calles him his edest son, and leaves him a substantial estate. Married Elizabeth in 1840. In 1851 he was aged 49 and farming 250 acres at Goose Green in Lambourne. Elizabeth is living with him, but there are no children. He died in 1859 without making a will. Administration was given to his wife. No children are mentioned. There is a gravestone in Lambourne churchyard to commemorate him and his wife.

      Will of thomas hedden of Chipping Lambourn, Berks, farmer. To my brother john hedden 20 acres of arable land at Foxbury and 3 acres of freehold arable land at Bockhampton. Also to john hedden a messuage or tenement with garden barn stable carthouse and orchard adjoining called Goose Green(?) (all situated in the parish of Chipping Lambourn) subject to the payment of 30 per annum to elizabeth hedden the widow of my late brother orchard hedden in lieu of all her right and title to dower out of such parts of my messuages lands and premises as she may be entitled to. To my brother john hedden 34(?) acres of land situate at Hadley and called Hadley Coppice, and all those pieces of meadow land near with cottage and garden thereto belonging and 7 1/2 acres of meadow land with the shed there (which said pieces of land are situated in Lambourn Woodlands). Also 37 1/2 acres of arable land with the barn there called Hatchetts(?) Corner and the Down land adjoining containing 33 acres called Coppinton Downs and Scrubbs and extending to Platt Lane. Also land containing 9 acres and 2 1/2 acres on Farncomb Downs (all situated in the parish of Chipping Lambourn). Also a freehold house and farmyard with stable barncarthouse and other buildings situate in Newbury Street in Chipping Lambourn and adjoining the George Inn yard and premises. Subject to the payment of an annuity of 80 to my wife sarah ann hedden. Upon trust to my brothers richard hedden and john hedden and james maberly of Chipping Lambourn 7 acres of arable situate at North Farm in Chipping Lambourn to sell the same and divide the money between the three children of my late brother charles. To my brother richard hedden my 2 cottages and gardens in Chipping Lambourn in the occupation of william hawkes and my 3 cottages gardens and orchards in Wantage Street in Chipping Lambourn. To my wife sarah ann hedden 2 cottagesand gardens in Chipping Lambourn one of which is in my own occupation and the other in the occupation of john goodall. All my household goods and effects to my wife. All my live and dead farming stock and the residue of my personal estate to my brothers richard and john and the said james maberly upon trust to sell to pay my debts funeral expenses and mortgages upon my freehold lands and premises and tp pay 10 to james maberly for his trouble in acting as one of my trustees and executors, and to pay my sisters maria mountford and mary davies 200 each. The surplus (if any) to be equally shared between my wife and my brothers richard and john. If there is a deficit then this to be paid by my brother john. My brother john to be given the first option to purchase the farming stock and crops at an independent valuation. Executors to be my brothers richard and john and james maberly. Dated 23 Feb 1866. Property etc in trust until children reach the following ages (viz orchard 25, john and james 21, maria and mary 21). To my eldest son thomas hedden my messuage or dwelling house ( now used as 2 tenements) barn stable cart-house yard etc situate in chipping lambourne and formerly called the swan inn, also 30 acres of arable in francomb bottom near francomb chipping lambourne. also 25 acres of freehold down land adjoining francomb bottom called csrub hill otherwise coppington hill subject to an annuity of 30 per annum to my dear wife elizabeth hedden ( all of which were formerly the property of my late brother orchard hedden). also to thomas hedden a legacy of 700 to be paid out of my personal estate. To my son charles hedden my half part of 12 acres of arable in francomb bottom being part of certain lands called rambarrow. Also my half part of 6 acres of down land called coppington adjoining thr last mentioned lands. Also my halp part of 7 acres on francomb down lately converted into tillage ( all of which siad lands were jointly holden by me and my late brother richard hedden who in his last will devised his half part unto my son richard hedden) Also to charles a legacy of 200. Also to my son charles and my son john my 5 freehold messuages or tenements gardens and premises etc situate in eastbury co berks as tenants in common.
      To my son john 21 1/2 acres af arable freehold in francomb bottom which i purchasred from the late philip godwin and a legacy of 100. To my son orchard my freehold meadows and woodlands called runnells lease situate in the tything of hadley in lambourne woodlands containing 8 acres approx together with the timber trees growing thereon and hayhouse erected thereon. Also 9 acres of freehold arable lying west of rambarrow in francomb bottom and extending from marlborough road to coppington hill and 9 acres of freehold arable situate on francomb down and extending across francomb bottom to common plot road. Together with 2 1/2 acres of freehold arable called tuthill situate in thr tything of bockhampton co berks. Also to orchard my freehold messuage or tenement barn and threshing machine affixed therein stable cart-house yard and premises etc situate in newbury streer chipping lambourne which i have lately purchased of thomas price esq subject to the payment of 350 part of a legacy of 500 bequeathed to me by my daughter maria.
      Also to richard my half part of 20 acres of freehold part arable and part meadow called hadley situate in lambourne woodlands and barn ( jointly held by me and my late brother richard who devised his half part to my son richard). To richard the freehold messuage or tenement garden etc situate in the tything of hadley in lambourn woodlands and now in the occupation of william berry. Also to richard a legacy of 200. To my son james a legacy of 1000. To my dau maria $500. To my dau mary 500. To my wife elizabeth 30 per annum. Stock and implements to be divided equally between my sons thomas, charles, orchard, richard and john.
