    • A deed dated 1809 identifies him as John Heading of Childrey, yeoman the brother of Frances Aldworth (deceased). His age of 90 years at his death in 1844 confirms his date of birth as 1754. No evidence that he married or had any children. In the 1840 census he is living alone except for 2 servants and is of independent means. His (rounded down) age is given as 85 years. He is the John Heading of Childrey mentioned in the will of Thomas Heading of Oxford (T086) who is the husband of John's sister Mary (M186)

      will of Thomas Heading of Childrey, yeoman. Dated 1 Aug 1817. Probate 1819.
      Property in Childrey and Letcombe Regis. Witnessed by George Baster, Charles Bush and Elizabeth Mace; all 3 sign. [Elizabeth Mace was Elizabeth Heading who married James Mace at East Challow in 1805]
      He refers to his late sister Martha the wife of John Broad, to his late brother William, to his deceased sister Sarah the wife of John Heading of East Challow, to his sister Maria, the wife of Joseph Smith. He mentions his one third share in the properties in Childrey and Letcombe Regis which he give to his brothers John & James as tenants in common and not as joint tenants. No mention of a wife or children.
      A codicil was added made later on the same day and witnessed by Bush & Baster only contains a bequest of£200 to "Elizabeth alias Lizzy, the natural daughter of Mary Lambourn alias Lambell, formerly a single woman and now the wife of John Froud, of which natural daughter I am the reputed father". The bequest was to be paid to her "at the age of 28 or on her marriage with the consent of my brothers John & James". He asks that at a proper age she shall be put out and apprenticed to a mantua maker, using the interest from the money that the executors are holding for her to provide her with £5 for clothes.
      [Elizabeth Lambourn/ Heading was baptised 21Sept 1803 at East Challow, and on 24 March 1808 Mary Lambourn married John Froud at East Challow].

      SUBJECT OF TRANSACTION: Property as in Ost/II/i/1 and V/i/4. in occupancy as in Ost/ V/i/4 and V/i/12
      Recites Ost/V/i/14
      Recites that Fanny Aldworth died 18 April 1808 intestate and without issue and Letters of Administration have been granted 15 July (1809) to 1,the brother and next of kin of said Fanny.
      Recites that only the principal sum of £100 due on mortgage now remains due,all interest having been paid to date.
      Recites that 3 has agreed with 2 for the absolute purchase of the premises in fee simple for £250, out of which it has been agreed that £100 shall be used to discharge the mortgage.
      NOW in consideration of the agreement aforesaid, and of £100 paid to 1 by 3,at the request of 2,in full of all principal and interest owing, and of the further sum of £150 paid to 2 by 3:
      2 releases premises to 3 (in his actual possession by virtue of Ost/ V/i/15) his heirs and assigns,to have and to hold to the only use of 3,his heirs and assigns for ever.
      2 covenants that he has good title and power to convey.
      3 may have possession, and may receive profits from 9 Feb. last. 2 will assure title by levying fine, recovery etc. at request and cost of 3.
      FURTHER, in pursuance of the said agreement and of considerations aforesaid, and of 10s paid to 1 by 4: 1 by direction of 2 and on nomination of 3, has assigned to 4 the premises for residue of term, 4 being a person nominated by 3,to have and to hold for residue of 1000 years in trust for 3 to attend the freehold and inheritance. 1 covenants that has not encumbered the estate.

      Will of Thomas Heading of the parish of St. Michael's, Oxford, corn chandler.
      Dated 1805. He names his wife Mary and his brother John Heading of Childrey. Mary is to continue his business as corn chandler and the proceeds of the sale of his household goods to be "divided between such of my children as shall be living at her death" [the children are not named]. The will was witnessed by Elizabeth Heading and Samuel Boswell.
      Proved in the Oxford Consistory Court June 1807
